How to get Enoshima&Kamakura from Tokyo

  • By Train:

    • From Tokyo to Enoshima and Enoshima to Kamakura: One of the simplest ways is to take the Odakyu Line's Limited Express "Romance car" from Shinjuku Station in Tokyo to Katase-Enoshima Station. The journey takes about 70-80 minutes. Other ways are JR Line and Shonan Monorail.

    • From Tokyo to Kamakura and Kamakura to Enoshima: You can take the JR Yokosuka Line from Tokyo Station to Kamakura Station. The journey takes about an hour and costs approximately ¥920. The Enoden (Enoshima Electric Railway) takes you from Kamakura Station to Enoshima in about 25 minutes for around ¥260.

Odakyu provides the Enoshima-Kamakura day-pass. This ticket includes a round-trip ticket on the Odakyu Lines (from the departure station to Fujisawa station) and unlimited rides on the Enoden Line and Odakyu Lines (from Fujisawa station to Katase-Enoshima station). It's a perfect ticket for a day trip to Enoshima and Kamakura.

Travel Itinerary of Enoshima and Kamakura

  • Morning:

    • 07:00 am – Depart from your accommodation in Tokyo. Head to the nearest station that connects to Shinjuku Station.

    • 08:00 am – Arrive at Shinjuku Station: Purchase your tickets for the Odakyu Line's "Romance car" to Katase-Enoshima Station or the Enoshima-Kamakura Day-pass. The Romance car is a limited express service that takes approximately 70 minutes and costs around ¥640 (plus an optional ¥630 for reserved seats on the Romance car).

    • 09:30 am – Arrive at Katase-Enoshima Station and walk towards Enoshima Island: The entrance is just a short walk from the station.

    • 09:45 am – Explore Enoshima: Take a leisurely walk towards the Enoshima Shrine and explore the island.

    • 10:30 am – Visit Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden: Enjoy the botanical garden and panoramic views from the Sea Candle lighthouse observation tower and have an early lunch.

    • 11:30 am – Head to Enoshima Iwaya: Explore the natural caves on the island. You can also have lunch around here. Several restaurants provide Shirasu-don.

    • 12:30 pm – Take the Enoden to Kamakura Station: Board the Enoden train to Kamakura. The journey takes about 25 minutes and costs around ¥260.

    • 01:00 pm – Visit Kamakura Daibutsu (Great Buddha): Take a bus or walk to the Kotoku-in Temple to see the Great Buddha.

    • 03:00 pm – Tsurugaoka Hachimangu: Walk or take a bus to this important Shinto shrine. Explore the surrounding area and maybe do a bit of shopping on the shopping street leading up to the shrine. You can also enjoy Komachi Dori, where you can enjoy shopping and eating.

  • Evening:

    • 05:00 pm – Head back to Kamakura Station: Don’t forget to collect some souvenirs like Hato Sabure cookies.

    • 05:30 pm – Depart for Shinjuku or Tokyo station
