How to get from Haneda airport to Tokyo

Updated: Oct 16, 2023

Haneda Airport is one of the famous international airport in Japan.

It is located within 30mins from major Tokyo city.

Haneda Airport has three terminals. International airport is handled by Terminal 3. Other two, which are Terminal 1 and 2 are mainly for Domestic flight. Between all terminal buildings, you can use free shuttle bus.

Moving from Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station

It can be conveniently done using the Monorail and JR lines.

Route 1: Using the Tokyo Monorail and JR lines (approx. 30 minutes)

  1. From Haneda Airport Terminal 1, Haneda Airport Terminal 2 , or Haneda Airport International Terminal 3 take the Tokyo Monorail Haneda Line to Hamamatsucho Station (travel time: about 20 minutes). Be careful not to get on a train going in the opposite direction.

  2. From Hamamatsucho Station, transfer to the JR Yamanote Line or Keihin Tohoku Line and get off at Tokyo Station (travel time: about 6 minutes). Once you get off the train and descend the stairs (or escalator), there will be multiple ticket gates. Keep going straight, do not change direction. You can rest assured as there will be a green sign that says 'Transfer to JR Line'.

However, this does not take into account the time needed for transfers and waiting, so it would be wise to plan for a total of about 40 minutes.

Both the Tokyo Monorail and the JR Yamanote Line and Keihin Tohoku Line operate at intervals of 5-10 minutes.

Route 2: Using the Keikyu Line and Tokyo Metro (approx. 25 minutes)

  1. From Haneda Airport Terminal 1, Haneda Airport Terminal 2 or Haneda Airport International Terminal 3, take the Keikyu Airport Line to Shinbashi Station (travel time: about 20 minutes).

  2. From Shinbashi Station, transfer to the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line and get off at Tokyo Station (travel time: about 3 minutes).

However, this does not take into account the time needed for transfers and waiting, so it would be wise to plan for a total of about 35 minutes.

Whichever route you choose, travel times may vary depending on the time of day and how busy the trains are, so it's recommended to allow extra time. If you have large luggage such as suitcases, it would be good to check the location of elevators and escalators, and to avoid crowded times by choosing off-peak hours.

Be careful when you arrived at late night and early morning, these train doesn't work from 12am to around 4:30am.
